We provide top-notch care to our patients with interstitial lung diseases on a daily basis. It is our goal to continuously improve our patient care.

Our center is recognized by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). We received this recognition for the knowledge and experience we have in treating patients with these rare condition(s). We meet the national standards and also the standard of the European Network for rare diseases: the European Reference Network.

In the Thorax Centre, three specialisms work together in the care of patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. These are cardiology, pulmonary medicine and cardio thoracic surgery.

The cardiology specialism provides education, conducts scientific research and treats cardiovascular diseases.

The specialty pulmonary medicine focuses on interstitial pulmonary diseases, pulmonary hypertension, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, respiratory disorders during sleep, pulmonary oncology and intervention (including endobronchial ultrasound from the esophagus EUS or trachea EBUS).

Within the specialty of cardio thoracic surgery, operations are performed for coronary artery disease (bypass surgery), heart valve defects, pediatric heart surgery and lung surgery. Erasmus MC is one of the two Dutch heart transplantation centers.

The Thorax Center wants to distinguish itself both nationally and internationally. We do this by improving the quality of patient care where we can. In addition, we stimulate scientific research and education in the field of cardiology and cardio thoracic surgery.
